“Good morning! I’m loving this app – of course I was drawn to it because I thought it was an actual selfie and I’m always taking selfies. But it is not – it is Home-self-e. Home, self, something you do yourself, and E because we are talking about saving energy and of course saving your money.
“I’ve got a great example with us this morning, Sara is so great to let us into her home and really just kind of snoop around – we like to snoop around.
“Tell me, how energy conscious are you in your own home?”
“I try to be as much as I can. It’s an older home and I try to take advantage of smart rebate programs, I’ve got the thermostat, I’ve got the shade tree out front, I have the turf program through the city.”
“So this is kind of the perfect app for her – here it is, again it’s call Homeselfe – and basically it has the image of the home, you see all the different rooms – you go through and you basically answer questions. We are in the living room so let’s take the living room for example. You click on the different little circles there and it asks you – Is your home drafty? Somewhat, she says. Okay, how bout –
Does your front door have a weather stripping? It doesn’t, okay. Once you go through all the questions, you go through all the rooms. Then it tells you how much you could save – it literally goes through every room how much you could save if you were to make it more efficient, if you were to make just some minor improvements in most cases. Look at that – total annual savings, $800! A total lifetime savings, how bout $20,000! You know what I could do with that kind of money?
“So Sarah, when you went through the home, what was your reaction to all the savings?”
“I don’t know as much about my home as I thought I did! And I would love to do everything that’s recommended, that’s so fantastic.”
“And it sounds like it’s pretty easy to do.
“Alright I’ve got one of the co-founders with us, Ameeta Jain, good morning to you. Let’s walk over to the website because it’s kind of a two-parter. Once you go through your home and answer all the easy questions – it literally takes five minutes – then it comes up with a report. And again, here’s what it does.
“What was the goal behind this? I mean this is fairly new but you were hoping people would learn more about their home.
“Yes, with technological advances, energy costs are rising and a need for energy is rising. So if we can help homeowners across the nation become more energy efficient, we can save money – over 30% on your utility bill. Which is amazing because now you have money to spend on other things!”
“Like clothes and bags, right? And Christmas shopping!
“So once you do check out your report it actually takes you to the links and shows you what rebates are available in your area. So again, this one is obviously local here, but depending on where you are it will take you to the different utility sites or whatnot.”
“So it’s so exciting because not only will you make these small changes and you’re going to save money on your utility bill, but in order to make those changes we’re giving you information on rebates. So they will help you make those changes.”
“A lot of times you don’t know they’re available. Very easy to do. It is call Homeselfe. It is FREE-99, even better – available on your iPhone and your Android, and of course you can find it online.
“Sara, thanks so much! And if you want, you still can take your selfie after you’re done. I did!
“Home Self with an E, not IE.”
