Green Building Elements (GBE), proponents of better, more energy efficient construction options, recently shared an infographic provided by Ameeta Jeet, co-founder of HomeSelfe, makers of a free, downloadable energy-saving money app. Their IG shows “What Uses The Most Energy In Your Home,” and also highlights the most common “vampire devices” that could be draining valuable dollars from your total utility budget without your knowledge.
Two Top Ten Lists
The infographic offers a list of the top ten devices and appliances that use the most power in an average home. It should come as no surprise that HVAC systems are the biggest draw when it comes to power consumption. Here’s the list in it’s entirety:
- Water Heater
- Washer & Dryer
- TV, DVD and Cable Boxes
Obviously some of these costs are unavoidable, we all need some of these basic necessities in order to survive. But that doesn’t mean we can’t be doing more to cut down on their usage and reap the rewards of being more environmentally friendly. Another list shared by GBE and HomeSelfe includes the top five reasons why people, the government and companies are choosing to use energy more efficiently. These include:
- Saving money
- Improving the economy
- Being more environmentally friendly
- Helping to promote national security
- Enhancing the quality of life
The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) and GBE reminds us to “Help make our country run better through increased efficiency – better plants, advanced materials and manufacturing processes, products, new homes, ways to improve older homes, and building in which to work shop and lead our everyday lives.”
