On Planet Weidknecht, they explore life here on earth and recently shared the money-saving benefits of the free HomeSelfe app. Blogger Lisa Weidknecht boasts she saved $588 by using HomeSelfe to perform a no-cost energy audit on her home in Hawaii.
Weidknecht stated it only took her about five minutes to install the app and answer some simple questions about her home and it’s energy efficiency rating of her home. The HomeSelfe report graded her house as “good” and offered her a handful of options to save on her utility costs.
The Simplest Solution
Even though the report offered some more costly improvements, like replacing doors and windows with more efficient Energy Star ® models, the recommendation that would save her the most amount of money was actually the least expensive – replacing light bulbs – for an annual return of over $150 in annual utility costs.
Lisa also noted that the HomeSelfe tool will provide homeowners with a list of local contractors should you decide to make some major changes. The app will also give users access to rebates available to them with upgrades to their home.
More Money Saving Tips
Weidknecht relates more energy and money saving tips from HomeSelfe, like unplugging power strips and appliances that aren’t in use. Or leaving handheld devices plugged in when they’ve completed their charging cycle is also throwing money down the drain. She jokes about how she was constantly telling her children to turn off lights when they left a room, but now that they’re grown and paying their own utility bills, they understand her persistence.
